Tris(acetonitrile)chromium tricarbonyl is used as a catalyst for thermal transformation of poly(methylsilene) to SiC ceramics via crosslinking reactions Catalyst for reduction of nitrobenzenes and nitrosobenzenes.

Synthesis
Tris(acetonitrile)chromium tricarbonyl is synthesized by refluxing Hexacarbonylchromium in Acetonitrile in an inert atmosphere. Removal of solvent under an inert atmosphere yields tris(acetonitrile)tricarbonylchromium.1
