Bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide is used for synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates.

Uses
N,O-bis(trimethylsilyl)-trifluoroacetamide (BSTFA) is similar to BSA in specificity of modification and there are several studies which have used both reagents.One study found BSTFA superior to BSA in product stability and yield of derivative. Another study compared several trimethylsilyl donors for end-capping of silica and observed that BSTFA was more reactive than BSA but less reactive than TMCim. Both BSA and BSTFA were used to prepare trimethylsilyl derivatives of pyrimidines and purines.Current work has used BSTFA for metabolomics analysis of urine,for the measurement of khatamines (psychoactive amines of khat (Catha edulis Forsk), and for the measurement of acrylamide in cocoa.
Uses
N,O-Bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide is used for analytical purposes or as a chemical reagent for synthesis of more complex molecules. It is silylation reagent useful in GC and GC-MS for the derivatization of a wide range of functional groups under mild conditions. It is also used as DAT inhibitor and a SLC6A2 inhibitor. It is routinely used to derivatize carboxylic acids, phenols, steroids, amines, alcohols, and alkaloids and amides.
Uses
Used as a reactant in the preparation of pyrimidinone ribosides and analogs that show anti-tumor properties.

General Description
Bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide with trimethylchlorosilane has found application to be used in gas chromatography (GC) and mass-spectrometry (MS). It can also be used in HPLC- electrochemical detection assay of 8-oxo-deoxyguanosine and8-oxo-guanine.

Synthesis
A process for N,O-bis-trimethylsilyltrifluoroacetamide:
N,O-bis-trimethylsilyltrifluoroacetamide, whose molecular formula is CF3CON[(CH3)3Si]2, is a kind of methylsilylating reagent, which is composed of raw materials of trimethylchlorosilane, triethylamine, and trifluoroacetamide, and is characterized in the following way: the said raw materials of trimethylchlorosilane, triethylamine, and trifluoroacetamide are in the ratio of moles of 1.2-4:2-4:1, respectively, and the process of synthesizing N,O-bis-trimethylsilyltrifluoroacetamide is to put into the reactor when synthesizing. The synthesized N,O-bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide is synthesized by putting triethylamine and trifluoroacetamide into the reactor and stirring for 1 hour, and then adding chlorotrimethylsilane dropwise into the reactor under the protection of N2 gas, controlling the temperature in the range of <50, and refilling it in 2-6 hours, and then protecting the reaction in 40-65 for 8-16 hours, and then lowering the temperature to less than 35 and discharging the material at the end of the reaction. The finished reaction material is added to the closed centrifuge for solid-liquid separation, and the mother liquor is sent to the concentration kettle for concentration, the concentration temperature is controlled between 60-100, and the pressure is from -0.2 to -08 atmospheric pressure. Then the concentrated mother liquor will be sent to distillation kettle for distillation, the distillation conditions: temperature control at 60-100 , pressure of -0.2 to -0.998 atmospheric pressure, tower height of 6-15 meters, after distillation of colorless and transparent liquids, and then packaged under the protection of N2 gas to get its finished products.
