Hazard InformationBack Directory
[Description]

Benzadox ammonium is a largely obsolete herbicide that was used to control broadleaved weeds and grasses in sugarbeet crops. Very little data is available regarding its environmental fate, ecotoxicology nor its impact on human health other than it having a low human toxicity via the oral route.
[Production Methods]

Benzadox ammonium is produced by converting benzadox (2-(benzamidooxy)acetic acid) into its ammonium salt form. The process typically involves neutralisation of benzadox with ammonium hydroxide or an equivalent ammonium source under controlled pH conditions to form a stable monoammonium salt. This reaction is carried out in aqueous or mixed solvent systems to ensure complete dissolution and salt formation. After neutralisation, the product is filtered, dried, and milled to achieve the desired purity and particle size for formulation.
[Mechanism of action]

Strong inhibitor of alanine aminotransferase
[Safety Profile]

Moderately toxic by ingestion andskin contact. When heated to decomposition it emits toxicfumes of NOx and NH3.
[Pesticide Type]

Herbicide
