Allgemeine Beschreibung
FKBP9 (FK506 binding protein 9, 63kDa) is a 63kDa protein belonging to the FKBP gene family. It possesses structural similarities with FKBP65 and SMAP. The protein is expressed in heart, skeletal muscle, lung, liver, and kidney. It consists of a hydrophobic region at the N-terminus, four peptidyl-prolyl cis/trans isomerase (PPIase) domains and an endoplasmic reticulum retention motif (HDEL) at the C-terminal end. FKBP9 accelerates isomerization activity of the peptidyl-prolyl bond via its C-terminal EF-hand Ca
2+ binding motif.
