Rubella vaccine (German measles vaccine, live, MeruvaxII, Merck) is a live, attenuated rubella virus produced inhuman diploid cell culture. The antigen form of the vaccine iswhole virus. The antigen type is protein. The vaccine is administeredas part of the normal immunization schedule at 15months. Side effects are minimal, but there may be some sorenessand pain at the site of injection and stiffness of the joints.A problem with the vaccine is that administration of alive virus is contraindicated in pregnancy.
