Interferon alfa-n1, Wellferon, is a mixture of α-interferonsisolated from a human lymphoblastoid cell line after inductionwith mouse parainfluenza virus type 1 (Sendai strain).Each of the subtypes of IFN-α in this product consists of165 or 166 amino acids with an average molecular mass of26,000 Da. The product is a mixture of each of the nine predominantsubtypes of IFN-α.Interferon alfa-n1 is indicated to treat chronic hepatitis Cin patients 18 years of age or older who have no decompensatedliver disease. The exact mechanism of action for interferonalfa-n1 in the treatment of this disease has not beenelucidated.This drug may be administered SC or IM, with a usualdose of 3 million IU 3 times per week. Interferon alfa-n1 issupplied as a solution containing tromethamine and bufferedsaline with human albumin as a stabilizer. Hence, the solutionshould not be shaken.
