Beschreibung

Cocculus laurifolia yields this alkaloid which occurs primarily in the leaves. The structure has been shown to be that given above based upon chemical and spectroscopic evidence.

Occurrence

A constituent of the leaves of Cocculus laurifolius D.C., isococculidine is a major component of the alkaloidal extract. It furnishes colourless needles when crystallized from C6H6H6-hexane. The alkaloid is dextrorotatory with a specific rotation of [α]D + 124° (c 1.2, MeOH) and has been shown to possess neuromuscular blocking and hypotensive activities.
