This rod outer-segment protein (MW = 48-kDa) inhibits the dephos- phorylation of photolyzed rhodopsin by binding preferentially to the phosphorylated protein and blocking dephosphorylation. Arrestin mediates the quenching of phototransduction. Target(s): G protein-coupled receptor/G protein coupling; protein phosphatase 2A, or opsin phosphatase; rhodopsin kinase.
