SOX10 (SRY-box 10) is a co-transcription factor that is located on human chromosome 22q13. SOX10 is temporarily expressed in melanoblasts.

Biochem/physiol Actions

SOX10 (SRY-box 10) regulates the expression of ErbB3 in neural crest cells. It is required for differentiation of peripheralglia. SOX10 plays an important role in the progression of melanocytes. Mutations in SOX10 result in Waardenburg syndrome and Hirschsprung disease.
