Beschreibung

This alkaloid, obtained from Solanum congestijlorum Dun. DC., has the lower of the above two melting points when crystallized rapidly and the higher when crystallized slowly from organic solvents. It is dextrorotatory with [α]²⁰_D + 122.7° (c 1.15, CHC1₃). Treatment with AC₂0 in pyridine gives the tracetate which is not crystallizable. Hydrogenation over Pt0₂ yields the dihydro derivative, m.p. 282-5°C; [α]²⁰_D + 25.9° (c 0.424, CHCl₃).
