Thymalin is an immunomodulatory drug containing a thymic polypeptide extract for the treatment of a variety of disorders associated with immune dysfunction, viral and bacterial infections, regenerative normalisation, immunosuppression, and haematopoietic suppression following chemo- and radiotherapy. Thymalin has shown significant efficacy in the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome and COPD, as well as in combination therapies associated with severe COVID-19 in middle-aged and elderly patients.

The immunoprotective effect of thymalin is expressed in the restoration of the number and ratio of T and B lymphocytes, their subpopulations, an increase in their functional activity, and increased phagocytosis. Timalin is used to treat various diseases associated with dysfunction of the immune system in children and adults (acute and chronic viral and bacterial infections, infectious purulent and septic processes, impaired regeneration processes, suppression of immunity and hematopoiesis after chemotherapy or radiation therapy). The use of thymalin helped to reduce the incidence of acute respiratory diseases in elderly and senile people by 2.0–2.4 times.
