KARBUTILATE Chemical Properties,Uses,Production
Uses
Karbutilate (Standard) is the analytical standard of Karbutilate. This product is intended for research and analytical applications. Karbutilate (NIA-11092) is a nonselective soil-active herbicide which is used to kill one-leaf pinyon saplings.
Production Methods
Karbutilate is commercially synthesised by reacting 4-isopropylphenyl isocyanate with dimethylcarbamic acid derivatives. The production process begins with the preparation of 4-isopropylphenyl isocyanate, which is then condensed with dimethylcarbamic acid or its chloride under controlled conditions to form the active compound: 1-(4-isopropylphenyl)-3,3-dimethylurea. This reaction typically occurs in an organic solvent like toluene or acetonitrile, using a base to neutralise by-products and ensure high yield.
Mechanism of action
Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor. Non-selective, absorbed mainly by roots. Inhibits photosynthasis.
