Uses
1-Chloroethylethylether can be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis.
Synthesis
Equimolar amounts of polyacetaldehyde and absolute ethanol were mixed, cooled, and saturated with dry hydrogen chloride with stirring. The crude product was separated, dehydrated and dried with anhydrous calcium chloride to obtain 1-chloroethylethyl ether with a yield of 94%.
