GENERAL STEPS: 3-Aminopyridine (2.0 g, 21.2 mmol), acetonitrile (4.36 g, 106 mmol) and 10% Pd/C catalyst (0.2 g) were dissolved in methanol (20 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at 25°C under hydrogen atmosphere for 16 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the catalyst was removed by filtration through a diatomaceous earth pad and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude product was purified by silica gel column chromatography using 5-10% methanol/dichloromethane as eluent to afford N-ethylpyridin-3-amine (0.7 g).
