General procedure for the synthesis of 2-(6-chloropyridin-3-yl)ethylamine from tert-butyl (2-(6-chloropyridin-3-yl)ethyl)carbamate: tert-butyl 2-(6-chloro-3-pyridinyl)ethyl carbamate (1.25 mmol, 320 mg) was dissolved in 6 mL of dichloromethane. Trifluoroacetic acid (0.6 mL) was added slowly at room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature and then concentrated under vacuum by rotary evaporator. The pH of the residue was adjusted to 12 with 30% aqueous sodium hydroxide and then extracted three times with 30 mL of dichloromethane. The organic phases were combined, dried with anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated again to give 194 mg of essentially pure 2-(6-chloro-3-pyridyl)ethylamine in 99% yield.1H NMR (CDCl3, ppm): δ 8.15 (1H, s), 7.45 (1H, d), 7.18 (1H, d), 2.85 (2H, m), 2.61 (2H, m) .
