Chemical Properties
alpha-isobutylbenzyl acetate is a colorless oily liquid. Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils. Fresh-woody, delicately fruity and green odor of moderate tenacity.
Uses
alpha-isobutylbenzyl acetate finds a little use in perfume compositions, mainly in Chyprc or Fougere types, novel fantasy types, alde-hydic-mossy types, etc. It is occasionally used in better soap perfumes, where its stability and solid undertones come to good effect.
Preparation
By direct esterification of the carbinol with Acetic acid under azeotropic conditions.
