The reaction was carried out with 2-chloro-5-hydroxypyridine (6-chloropyridin-3-ol, 1.0 g) and benzyl bromide (benzyl bromide, 1.5 g) as raw materials in the presence of potassium carbonate (2.4 g) at 60 °C for 18 h with stirring in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF, 40 mL). After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was filtered and the solvent in the filtrate was removed by distillation under reduced pressure to obtain the crude product. The crude product was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluent: hexane-ethyl acetate gradient) to afford the target compound 2-chloro-5-benzyloxypyridine (3-(benzyloxy)-2-chloro pyridine, 1.3 g) in quantitative yield.
