| Synthesis | 5-Methylpyrazine-2-carboxylic acid (13.81 g, 0.1 mol), tert-butanol (95 mL, 1 mol), triethylamine (27.9 mL, 0.2 mol) and diphenylphosphoryl azide (30.27 g, 0.11 mol) were dissolved in 300 mL of toluene. The reaction mixture was heated to reflux temperature for 8 hours.
