| | 4-Isopropenylphenol Usage And Synthesis |
| Chemical Properties | 4-Isopropylphenol is a white crystalline solid at room temperature and pressure, poor solubility in water but soluble in chloroform, ethyl acetate and alcohol organic solvents, has strong acidity, can react with common electrophilic reagents. | | Uses | 4-Isopropenylphenol is an intermediate in the synthesis of 3,5-Dichlorobisphenol A (D433555), a monomer used for policarbonate and epoxy resins; exhibits estrogenic activity. | | Synthesis | 4-Isopropenylphenol (p-isopropenylphenol, IPP) can be synthesised via the pyrolysis of bisphenol A with high temperature liquid water (HTW) as the reaction medium using 200–350°C, without catalysis or oligomerisation. Herein, IPP and phenol constitute the primary products of bisphenol A pyrolysis, whilst acetone represents the secondary product of IPP hydrolysis[1].
