| Synthesis | General procedure for the synthesis of 1-oxo-3,8-diazaspiro[4,5]decan-2-one from 8-benzyl-1-oxo-3,8-diazaspiro[4,5]decan-2-one: 8-benzyl-1-oxo-3,8-diazaspiro[4,5]decan-2-one (170 mg, 0.69 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (20 mL), ammonium formate (261 mg) and 10% Pd/C (89 mg). The reaction mixture was stirred and refluxed for 1.5 h at room temperature. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was filtered through a diatomaceous earth pad and the solvent was removed under vacuum. The residue was dissolved in methanol and the solution was allowed to pass through a SCX column pre-washed with methanol and eluted with a methanol solution of 2N ammonia to afford 1-oxo-3,8-diazaspiro[4,5]decan-2-one (80 mg, 74% yield).
