Basically, lopinavir and ritonavir act as an antivirus, preventing and reducing the production of HIV virus in the body. Patients should be informed that lopinavir and ritonavir are not used as a cure for HIV; rather, they are only used to treat and manage the condition. The combined drugs also do not prevent the virus from being transmitted from one person to another.
