Mercaptosuccinic acid is Colorless crystal or white powder. Melting point 152-155°C. Easily soluble in water, alcohol, ether and acetone, almost insoluble in benzene. The aqueous solution appears blue when it meets ferric chloride, but it disappears quickly. There is a sulphur smell.
