The optical rotation of the mixture of equal amounts of right-handed body and left-handed body cancels each other out, which is called racemic tartaric acid. The meso form does not exist in nature and can be synthesized chemically. All kinds of tartaric acid are colorless crystals that are easily soluble in water.
