2-Bromodibenzothiophene is a fluorinated benzothiophene with a bromine atom at the 2-position. It is soluble in organic solvents, supercritical fluids, and has chemical stability in the presence of halides. The photophysical properties of this compound have been studied in detail, including its absorption spectrum and fluorescence emission spectrum. The electronic interactions and functional groups are also known to be important in determining the biological activity of this compound. This molecule has shown potent inhibitory activity against farnesyl diphosphate synthase (a key enzyme in the cholesterol biosynthetic pathway) and has been tested as an inhibitor for xanthine oxidase (an enzyme involved in purine metabolism).
