5-Methoxyflavone is a plant-derived compound with antioxidant properties. It has been shown to inhibit the formation of reactive oxygen species, which can damage DNA and lead to cancer. 5-Methoxyflavone is also an inhibitor of cytochrome P450 enzymes, which are known to contribute to the development of cervical cancer in women. This agent also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-α. 5-Methoxyflavone may be used for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases or for the prevention of cognitive impairment in Alzheimer’s disease patients. The effects on neuronal death are due to its ability to bind to glucocorticoid receptors, preventing their interaction with DNA.
