Acetyl chloride is an acyl chloride derived from acetic acid, the molecular formula is CH3COCl, and the structure is shown in the right figure.
In standard condition, acetyl chloride is a colorless, clear liquid that gives off smoke in moist air.
Acetyl chloride reacts with water to form acetic acid and hydrogen chloride, so acetyl chloride does not exist in nature.
It can be prepared from thionyl chlorinated acetic acid.
Acetyl chloride is a commonly used acetylating reagent. It is often used in esterification reactions and Fourier carylation reactions. Such acylation reactions are often carried out in the presence of bases, such as pyridine, triethylamine or DMAP, as catalysts and neutralized HCl.
Acetylation is the process of introducing acetyl groups into reactants through acylation reaction. Commonly used acetylating agents are acetyl chloride and acetic anhydride.
Acetyl is a group whose chemical formula is -c (=O) -ch3.
