Description: Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that effectively inhibits the secretion of gastric acid. Its mechanism of action involves selectively acting on the parietal cells of the gastric mucosa, inhibiting the activity of the H+,K+-ATPase enzyme located on the secretory canaliculi at the apex of the gastric wall cells and in the tubulovesicles within the cytoplasm. This inhibition effectively suppresses the secretion of gastric acid. It acts rapidly and is suitable for treating gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and gastrinoma (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome).
