  Acyclovir is a synthetic purine nucleoside antiviral drug and one of the most commonly used antiviral drugs. It is mainly used for various infections caused by herpes simplex virus and can be used for initial or recurrent skin, mucosal, external genital infections, and infections in immunocompromised individuals. As the first choice drug for treating HSV encephalitis, it is better than adenosine arabinoside in reducing incidence rate and mortality. It can also be used for herpes zoster, EB virus, and infections such as chickenpox in immunocompromised individuals. Locally only used on the skin, with less absorption by the skin.
