Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is widely distributed inthe body and is believed to occur throughout the gastrointestinaltract. It is a 28-residue polypeptide with structuralsimilarities to secretin and glucagon. It causes vasodilatationand increases cardiac contractibility.
