1. It is a widely used biocide that inhibits bacterial growth and spoilage.

2. It is toxic to both microbes and fungi. BIT is also marketed as a mixture with other isothiazolinone-based biocides.

3. Typical concentrations in products are 200-400 ppm depending on the application area and the combination with other biocides.

4. It also is active against bacteria and fungi, especially in highly alkaline environments.

5. It is used as a preservative in emulsion paints, varnishes, adhesives, washing agents, fuels, and in the papermaking process.

6. In paints, it is commonly used as a mixture with methylisothiazolinone.

7. It is also used to preserve a variety of water-based process liquids, including metal-working fluids, oil-field fluids and injection water, textile solutions, pesticide emulsions, and mineral slurries and coatings used in paper mills.
