Description: Bimatoprost is a synthetic derivative of prostaglandin F2α. It has the ability to reduce ocular hypotension, proving effective in conditions such as ocular hypertension and glaucoma, capable of selectively mimicking the effects of naturally occurring prostamides. It increases the production rate of aqueous humor and reduces the resistance to its outflow by enhancing the flow through trabecular meshwork and uveoscleral pathways, thereby lowering intraocular pressure (IOP). It is considered one of the most potent local anti-glaucoma medications currently available. Bimatoprost is suitable for treating open-angle glaucoma (POAG) or ocular hypertension (OHT) in patients who do not respond to other IOP-lowering medications. Bimatoprost is also used to treat eyelash hypotrichosis, or sparse eyelash growth.
