Black ginger, a kind of ginger plant, grows in tropical Asia; it is mainly distributed in northeastern Thailand. Scientifically, it is called Kaempferia parviflora, which is commonly referred to as “black turmeric” or “black ginger” in Japan. At the same time, it is known as the Krachai Dam in its native country of Thailand.

The roots of black ginger (Kaempferia parviflora or Zingiberaceae) have traditionally been used as food and folk medicine in Thailand for more than 1,000 years.
