Dipropylene glycol generally refers to 4-oxa-2, 6-heptanediol, that is, di (2-hydroxypropyl) ether (two 1-hydroxyl groups of two molecules of 1, 2-propylene glycol condensation). It may also refer to:

4-oxa-1, 7-heptanediol (condensation of two hydroxyl groups of 1, 3-propylene glycol);

Bis (1-methyl-hydroxyethyl) ethers (condensation of two 2-hydroxyl groups of two molecules of 1, 2-propylene glycol);

2-(2-hydroxy-propoxy) -1-propanol (condensation of a 1-hydroxyl group of two molecules, 1, 2-propanediol with a 2-hydroxyl group).

Used in the manufacture of polyester resin. It is used as the solvent of cellulose acetate, cellulose nitrate, shellac varnish, castor oil, the component of fiber lubricant, and the preparation of plasticizer, fumigant, synthetic detergent, etc. In addition, dipropylene glycol can be used alone or in combination with diethylene glycol to extract aromatic hydrocarbons from hydrocarbons.
