Yellow-brown crystalline or block solid, odorless, astringent. Melting point 37 oC. Boiling point 280 oC. Easy to dissolve in water, soluble in ethanol, ether. Its aqueous solution is strong acidic, can make the protein solidify. Hygroscopic, in the air can be dissolved into red-brown liquid.
