What is Magnesium Chloride?

Magnesium chloride is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula MgCl2 and a molar mass of 95.211. It appears as colorless flake-like crystals, slightly soluble in acetone, and soluble in water, ethanol, methanol, and pyridine. It deliquesces and emits smoke in humid air, and when exposed to a stream of hydrogen gas, it sublimes and becomes incandescent.

Usage:

1. Metallurgical industry:

It is used to manufacture refractory materials and adhesives for building furnace arms, and is a raw material for manufacturing No. 2 flux and smelting metal magnesium.

2. Chemical industry:

It is mainly used to make various magnesium salts, such as magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate, and firecracker solid primer. It is also used as a raw material for antifreeze.

3. Building materials:

Made with magnesite (MgO) hard and corrosion-resistant magnesia cement, which can be made into artificial marble, terracotta tiles, floors, ceilings, decorative panels, fireproof panels, greenhouse supports, partitions, magnesite manhole covers, bathtubs , Door and window frames and mobile homes.

4. Machinery industry:

In daily life, magma can be made into mechanical packing boxes, triangular cushions and furniture, etc. It is a good material for "substituting soil for materials".

5. Food industry:

The tofu made with brine (magnesium chloride aqueous solution) is more tender and delicious than the tofu made with stone. It is also used as an additive in some foods.

6. Transportation industry:

Used as a road ice and snow melting agent, it has a fast deicing speed and is less corrosive to vehicles, which is higher than the effect of sodium chloride. 

7. Medicine:

It can be used for medicinal purposes to make "dried bittern" with magnesium chloride.

8. Agriculture:

It can be used as magnesium fertilizer, potassium magnesium fertilizer and cotton defoliant.
