Properties: It is white powder. The melting point is 1261oC. It is insoluble in water and alcohol, slightly soluble in dilute acid, soluble in ni-tric acid. It can be stored in glass containers.
Application: It is used in manufacture of ceramic, glass, flux of smelting magnesium, coating lenses and filter of optical instruments and so on.

Magnesium fluoride (MgF2) is a white crystalline salt. It is used in the
electrolysis of aluminum ore to produce metallic aluminum and also as a
reflective coating on various types of optical components. It is a
tetragonal, birefringent crystal with the TiO2 type of structure.
