Moxidectin is a semi-synthetic macrolide derivative of nemadectin. It acts as an antiparasitic agent for the prevention and control of filariae and intestinal helminths.

Moxidectin is incorporated in veterinary preparations applied to animals including dogs, cats, horses, cattle and sheep. It was initially introduced as a veterinary anthelmintic.

As a new-generation anthelmintic, moxidectin delivers effective activity against nematodes and ectoparasites while maintaining a favorable safety profile for animals. It outperforms ivermectin with regard to dosage requirements, formulation development, drug resistance and in-vivo drug distribution.
