Polyethylene (PE) is one of the most widely produced and used synthetic polymers in the world.
It is made from ethylene monomers (CH?=CH?) through an addition polymerization reaction, and belongs to the family of thermoplastic resins.

?? Main Types

Based on density and molecular structure, polyethylene can be divided into:

• Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE): Soft and transparent; commonly used in films, plastic bags, and wire or cable insulation.

• High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE): Strong and chemically resistant; used for bottles, containers, and pipes.

• Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE): Combines flexibility and strength; widely applied in packaging and stretch films.

?? Key Properties

• Excellent chemical resistance to acids, alkalis, and most solvents;

• High electrical insulation capability;

• Good processability and plasticity for molding and extrusion;

• Main drawbacks: limited heat resistance and mechanical strength, and poor biodegradability.

Polyethylene is everywhere — in packaging materials, consumer goods, piping systems, medical supplies, electrical insulation, and agricultural films, among many other uses.
