Shikonin (nchusin, Anchusaacid AlkannaRed, C.I. 75535, Isoarnebin4, NSC252844), is a kind of PyruvatekinaseM2 (PKM2) effective, specific inhibitors. It is the main component of comfrey, a Chinese herb with a variety of biological activities. Shikonin was also an inhibitor of TMEM16A chloride ion channels in cell fluorescence quenching experiments. Shikonin exerts anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting tumornecrosisfactor-α(TNF-α) and can block the activation of the nuclearfactor-κB(NF-κB) signaling pathway by inhibiting proteasome.
