Sodium sulfite

Introduction：

Sodium sulfite is an inorganic compound. It is white granular powder at room temperature, with sulfur dioxide odor, stable when dry, and sensitive to humidity. It is soluble in water and glycerin, but insoluble in ethanol. The aqueous solution is alkaline. Its aqueous solution is alkaline to litmus test paper and phenolphthalein, and produces toxic sulfur dioxide gas when it reacts with acid. The pH of 1% aqueous solution is 8.3~9.4, with strong reducibility. It is decomposed into sodium sulfide and sodium sulfate when heated, and gradually oxidized into sodium sulfate when placed in the air. In nature, there are three forms of anhydrous sodium sulfite, sodium sulfite heptahydrate and sodium sulfite decahydrate, among which anhydrous sodium sulfite is the most difficult to be oxidized.

Usage：Anhydrous sodium sulfite can be used as a developer, to prepare cellulose sulfite ester, to prepare sodium thiosulfate, as a preservative for dried fruits and meat, as a deoxidizer in the printing and dyeing industry, and as a reducing chemical reagent. It is used in the production and synthesis of chemical industry and laboratories.
