Strontium sulfate (SrSO4) is the sulfate counterpart of strontium, appearing as a white crystalline powder that occurs in nature in the form of the mineral lapis lazuli. It is very slightly soluble in water, the ratio is 8800:1, that is, 8800 volume of water can dissolve 1 volume of strontium sulfate, compared to more soluble in hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, slightly soluble in alkaline chlorides, such as sodium chloride.
