Alagebrium chloride is an inhibitor of Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs), and its main mechanism of action is to improve the elasticity and function of tissues by breaking the crosslinks between AGEs. AGEs are the products of non-enzymatic reactions of sugar molecules with proteins or lipids that accumulate in the body with age, leading to tissue hardening and functional degradation. Alagebrium chloride has been studied for the treatment of age-related diseases.
