Oleoyl Ethyl Amide (CAS 85075-82-7), abbreviated OEtA, is a fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) inhibitor displaying analgesic and anxiolytic properties. FAAH, a membrane-bound serine hydrolase, is responsible in vivo for degrading fatty acid amides (FAAs), signaling lipids involved in pain and anxiety modulation. In rat brain homogenates, OEtA inhibits FAAH activity potently with an IC50 of 5.25 nM, without affinity for CB1 or CB2 cannabinoid receptors or inhibition of acidic PEAase activity. Animal studies indicate that chronic subcutaneous administration of OEtA reduces bladder overactivity and improves urodynamic parameters, supporting its application in research on pain, anxiety, and bladder dysfunction.
