It is a precursor to the aromatic compound methyl anthranilate, which has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties. TMBEH is also used as a flavorant in food and beverages and can be found in products such as colas, ice cream, chewing gum, and candy. TMBEH can be produced by irradiation of 2,6,6-trimethylcyclohexanone with ultraviolet light or by reacting it with metal hydroxides or alkali metals in an organic solvent.
