The catalytic activity of 1,1'-Di-n-octyl-4,4'-bipyridinium Dibromide can be enhanced by replacing the hydrogen atom on the nitrogen atom with an alkene group. 1,1'-Di-n-octyl-4,4'-bipyridinium Dibromide is also a radical cation that can be reduced by electron donors to form radicals.
