Dihydrofolic acid is an organic compound that is a derivative of folic acid. It is the reduced form of folic acid and can be used to treat certain autoimmune diseases, such as bowel disease. Dihydrofolic acid has been shown to have antimicrobial effects against infectious diseases, including tuberculosis. This compound can also be used to treat metal-chelate resistant bacteria, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Dihydrofolic acid has been shown to have neuroprotective properties in animals models and may be a potential drug target for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
