N-Propanol is transparent liquid, with alcohol flavor and melting point -126.2℃, boiling point 97.2 ℃. N-Propanol can be miscible with various solvents such as water, alcohol, ether, hydrocarbon, etc. It can be used directly as a solvent, or it can be used as a solvent after the synthesis of n-propyl acetate.

The chemical properties of n-propanol are similar to other low molecular weight aliphatic primary alcohols, and it is a chemical product with a wide range of uses;

N-propanol can also be used to synthesize n-propylamine, di-n-propylamine, etc. in the agricultural field, or to synthesize various esters for food additives, plasticizers, spices, etc.

At present, it is widely used in coatings, paints, adhesives, cosmetics, plastics and fungicides and other products. It is also an important raw material in many fields such as food additives, feed additives, synthetic fragrances, detergents, preservatives and brake oil. In addition, n-propanol also has very important applications in the field of pharmaceutical intermediates.

The total production capacity of China's n-propanol market in 2019 is 142,000 tons.

The production of n-propanol by ethylene oxo synthesis is the most important production process in China, accounting for 84.5% of the country's total production capacity.

The production capacity of the allyl alcohol hydrogenation method is 15,000 tons, accounting for 10% of the total domestic production capacity.

In 2019, China still maintains strong external dependence on n-propanol. According to the data, from January to May 2019, China ’s import of n-propanol was 35,800 tons, and the cumulative export from January to May was only 37.49 tons. From January to May 2018, China's total import of n-propanol was 28,900 tons, and the cumulative increase from January to May 2019 was up to 23.61% year-on-year.
