Humanin is a 24 amino acid anti apoptotic peptide and a Bax inhibitor. Humanin can prevent the transport of Bax from cytoplasm to mitochondria and block the transition of Bax from active conformation to active conformation. Humanin is a mitochondrial related peptide that has neuroprotective effects against AD related neurotoxicity and can inhibit neuronal cell death induced by familial Alzheimer's disease genes and amyloid beta protein (human).
