Candidalysin is a cell lytic peptide toxin that was initially isolated from Candida albicans and has both toxic and non-toxic characteristics. It is a peptide composed of 31 amino acids. Candidalysin activates the epithelial cell signaling pathway by interacting with the host cell's epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR), activating matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) and calcium influx, leading to inflammatory response and immune cell recruitment. Candidalysin exhibits cytotoxicity by causing membrane damage to host cells.
