Bacitracin Zinc is a complex of zinc and bacitracin. It is a white or off-white powder with its characteristic odor and bitter taste. It is a mixture of related cyclic peptides produced by organisms of the licheniformis group of Bacillus subtilis var Tracy. These peptides disrupt Gram-positive bacteria by interfering with the cell wall and peptidoglycan synthesis
It is one of our USFDA-Approved pharmaceutical ingredients along with bacitracin and polymyxin b sulfate. It is an effective narrow-spectrum antibiotic peptide with a similar antibacterial spectrum to penicillin, mainly for Gram-positive cocci and bacilli. Zinc bacitracin powder also exerts a certain inhibitory effect on several Gram-negative bacteria, spirochetes, and actinomycetes with attributes of high efficiency, low toxicity, and low residue.
